It’s rather strange….
I finished the inside coat of fiberglass on the mech chest, and left it to dry. Even now, though, the fiberglass coating is slightly sticky, on both inside and outside areas. I’ll have to see what it’s like after sanding… of course, I will be painting it, so it doesn’t really matter how sticky the fiberglass itself is, but still, it’s strange.
Just a single application of coating material on the finer fiberglass cloth left visible edges where I had cut out the cloth pieces. However, I think I can do another application of coating material (this time with no additional fiberglass) to hide those. Hopefully I can get to that this weekend, along with starting on the arms.
I forgot to mention! I bought all my fiberglass materials from TAP Plastics.
Standard-grade fiberglass mat (3/4 oz)
Surfacing veil fiberglass mat (3/4 oz)
CoatIt Epoxy Sealer (2 lb kit)
I also picked up several sets of – pair of latex gloves (so I didn’t get glass in my hands), brush, and 1 qt mixing/measure plastic tub, so I could mix and apply the CoatIt sealer.
Happy fiberglassing!
