Between the move, getting sick repeatedly, and other stuff intruding on my costuming time, it looks seriously doubtful that I’ll have Siegfried done for Costume Con at this point. I know it’s not until the later part of April, but I have to look at the facts – the armor isn’t done (some pieces don’t even have their final fiberglass coating yet, much less a smoothing pass, and none have been painted yet), the sword needs a complete redo, and I haven’t sewn up the shirt or pants yet, which I feel like I have to do if I’m competing with this thing. Even though I feel like I could get the costume done relatively quickly if I could dedicate a serious block of time (like, a week) to it, I just don’t think I’ll have that dedicated block before the con.
So, at this point I think my plan is: go to Costume Con and enjoy the con, see friends, and help out others who are competing if they need a hand. And also finish Siegfried, but not compete with him this time around. Maybe I’ll have him ready for a con this year (I’m not planning on going to many), maybe not, we’ll see. But I really don’t want to promise to have him ready for anything at this point, because so much else is going on.
If, by some miracle, I finish Siegfried, I’ll definitely take him to Costume Con, though!
(There is another project I’m working on, which will help me make better armor in the future, but that probably won’t finish up until early summer at this point – far too late for any Siegfried at Costume Con assistance. Which is a real shame – it’s a way of making better armor faster, and Siegfried would be a perfect test bed.)
